Authorities in Hamilton County, Ohio, are continuing their investigation into a fatal shooting in Lincoln Heights, a suburb of Cincinnati, where one man was killed and another individual was taken into custody following a violent incident inside a residence.

According to police reports, deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the 900 block of Byrd Avenue after receiving a 911 call from a man who claimed he had shot another individual during an argument. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures. Despite efforts by medical staff, the man later died from his injuries. Authorities confirmed the incident was not random and occurred during a personal dispute inside the residence.

The suspect, who was taken into custody at the scene, reportedly told law enforcement that he was responsible for the shooting. Court documents indicate that the confrontation escalated after the victim returned to the home to retrieve personal belongings. During the exchange, an argument broke out, leading to the fatal gunfire.

Investigators stated that the suspect produced a firearm during the dispute and fired a single shot that struck the victim. A law enforcement body camera reportedly captured the suspect acknowledging his involvement in the shooting shortly after officers arrived.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has since charged the suspect with murder and felonious assault. A judge set bond at a high amount due to the severity of the charges. The identity of the victim was later confirmed as Terrell Howell, 26, who was remembered by family and friends during a vigil held in his honor.

Community members gathered in the days following the shooting to mourn his loss, light candles, and release balloons, calling for peace and an end to violence in the area. Loved ones described Howell as energetic and deeply valued by those close to him.

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Officials have not indicated any broader threat to the community, emphasizing that the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident between individuals who knew each other.

Law enforcement is asking anyone with additional information to contact the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers as the case continues to move through the legal process.
