The community of Mount Vernon is mourning the passing of Brooksany Barrowes, whose death on May 10, 2026, has left family, friends, and loved ones in deep sorrow. She passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 51, after a courageous battle with stage 4 cancer.
Brooksany is remembered as a deeply cherished member of the Alexandria 2nd Ward and the wider church and community in Alexandria. Known for her warmth, faith, and enduring strength, she touched the lives of many through her service, leadership, and personal example.
Even while facing serious illness, Brooksany demonstrated remarkable resilience. She famously hiked Mount Kilimanjaro during her battle with cancer, a reflection of her determination and unwavering spirit. Her life was marked not only by personal courage, but also by consistent service to others.
Within her faith community, she served in multiple roles, including Young Women’s Adviser and more recently as Primary President. In each calling, she was described as dedicated, compassionate, and deeply committed to nurturing and supporting those she served.
Professionally, Brooksany was a highly accomplished energy lawyer, recognized both nationally and internationally. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 1996 and later earned her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1999. Her career reflected intelligence, discipline, and a commitment to excellence.
She is survived by her parents, six siblings, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom remember her as a source of love, encouragement, and inspiration. To her family and friends, she was not only accomplished, but deeply caring and present in their lives.
Community leaders and church members have expressed profound gratitude for her life and the example she set. Her influence extended across both professional and personal circles, leaving a legacy of faith, perseverance, and service.
